And many more
May 10, 2009
What do Fungus the Bogeyman, The Dead Zone, Smiley’s People, The Executioner’s Song, Sophie’s Choice, The Federated States of Micronesia and your humble Sunday writer all have in common?
We’re all 30 this year. These are a random selection of some of the books first published in 1979, and still going strong today.
And in the case of Micronesia and myself, today, 10 May, is our birthday. Micronesia became self-governing on 10 May 1979, and half-way around the world I made my first, and by all accounts noisy, appearance.
I have a feeling that the books have aged better than I have…..
In two weeks time Paul will be dragging his 30 year old frame around London for the annual BUPA London 10,000 in aid of Amnesty International. If you would like to sponsor him, please visit his donation page.

Happy Birthday, Paul!
Happy birthday Paul. You’ve joined the ranks of people apparently ‘all grown up now’.
Happy birthday old man!
Not that you’re old, and certainly not as old as I am but …
Oh, never mind.
