Gearing Up
There’s an elephant in the room and no one is talking about it. So I guess I’ll be the first to bring it up.
NaNoWriMo starts in 34 days.
I’ll wait while you pick your jaw up off the floor.
If you’re going to participate this year it’s time to start gearing up for it.
I’m not sure if I’m going to do it this year. It’s a lot of work. I’ve done it in years past. Sometimes it’s rewarding, and sometimes it just doesn’t seem worth it to put so much work into a document that, two years later, is just gathering dust.
The reasons that I took 2009 off are no longer valid. I’m now single, with no kids living with me. So if I don’t do it this year I can only use myself as an excuse.
Decisions, decisions…
What about you? Will you be pitching your hat into the frenzied ring this year?

I’ve thought about doing it for a couple of years when I first heard about it, but my hat will be staying firmly on my head. It will figure in my plans sometime in the future, just not this year.
damn.. I wondered why it was so hard to breathe here…
yep,, I’ll be there in NANO madness….but don’t tell my family…
Its that time of the year again to work and ingest caffeine
I’m in this year and this year I am actually rocking an outline and research.
Also in the spirit of gearing up. the twitter account @NanoWordSprints has been doing evening word sprint fun, and even did a full day on Saturday.
I’ve been wanting to give it a go for a couple years now, but November is a busy month for me and something always comes up. And, of course, this year is no different.
I want to do it but it’s a toss up between writing my second book in my YA series, or continue to work on my serial.
I’d like to do it this year. I am a #NaNoWriMo virgin though, and I scare easily. I wasn’t feeling particularly confident I could produce a sufficient quantity of work in time; terrible hunt-and-pecker. But the @NaNoWordSprints on Twitter have been very helpful. I’ve been promising myself to build some finger muscle at http://sixminutestory.com/ as well.
I was actually thinking of skipping this year, but every year I compete with my son. When I mentioned to him that I was thinking of skipping, he absolutely insisted. So, I have no choice. LOL
It’s fun, but I still am trying to figure out how to edit the 3 rough draft novels I’ve written. I’m thinking my solution is to turn them into serials. Weekly deadlines and smaller chunks.
I’m looking forward to it!
I considered it last year, then realized that writing that many words within a month using my highly-concise fiction style would be a frustrating nightmare. I’m planning on using some kind of Firefox extension to avoid the “such-and-such percent finished” blog badges, since the publicly competitive/self-congratulatory/obsessive aspect is a little annoying after a while.
