Blog-A-Thon: First Book

July 28, 2007

I’m Tammi, the Wednesday writer for Write Stuff. I’ve been writing since I can remember and reading, drawing and writing stories are an integral part of who I am.

The first book I remember reading is Charlotte’s Web. I was in third grade. My older brother introduced me to the text. He’s four years older than I am and he had the habit of sharing good reads with me ever since.

Other stories swirled around our house. My mother is an imaginative woman with a very creative mind. One story that will always remember is O. Henry’s The Gift of the Magi. Mom read that story on a Christmas day because she didn’t have enough money to buy us real gifts. She didn’t realize at the time that she had given us the most wonderful gift in taking the time to tell us that story. It is the fondest memory I have of my mother and I hold it dear to my heart.

I also hold our charity close to my heart. The First Book drive is so very important to so many families. I am the product of a home that was underprivileged. Mom’s stories drove us to strive for better things for ourselves.

In the imagination nothing is impossible. The stories served to help us navigate the world while gaining a deeper understanding of people as well as our experiences. They also gave us hope for a better future.

Right now there are many parents who are torn between whether they should spend money on clothes for their children or put a little food in the cupboard. Books for these parents are the stuff of dreams.

I plan to write character sketches. Just drop a name in the comment section and I’ll create a persona.

Don’t forget to pledge for First Book…All sponsors who pledge $10.00 and over are eligible to receive a FREE e-book of the Write Stuff blog-a-thon entries. All sponsors are also eligible to win a special edition Write Stuff journal!

I’ll drop a name I’m using in a novel I’m working on. I just want to see what your sketch turns into…
