PR machine killing field: a poem

September 24, 2007

In Alabama, the total union members is 195,000.
Every year, in America, 195,000 book titles are published.
In Alabama, the labor union for paper, allied-industrial, chemical and energy workers represents less than five percent of the union members.
Less than five percent of books published sell more than 5,000 copies.

374 people were murdered in Alabama in a single year.
483 books sold more than 100,000 copies in a year.
A single book has yet to be written about either one of the 374 victims or their murderers.

This is not a diatribe about numbers and book publishing.
This is a press release—a public relations notice.

Killing someone in California in 1994 gets a book title closer to the five percent.
