Thoughts into Words

January 14, 2009

Writing involves transforming thoughts and images into words and I have found that this is pretty challenging to say the least. The biggest obstacle is recreating the experience, visions and ideas in a way that actually captures them. Even this post is turning out to be a little different than I had mapped out in my mind.

This makes me wonder how other writers’ stories and memoirs develop.

Do you see the story as it unfolds?

Is there a voice telling the tale?

Do you feel emotions along with your characters?

How are you able to manifest your stories into words?

Interesting post Tammi. I don’t think you can ever translate what’s in your head onto the page. I guess I try different techniques all of the time but sometimes I just don’t get a strong enough image in my head to translate to the page, and I’m more looking for how it looks on the page as writing, not as a replication of something else, which in my opinion, isn’t as true to the story. If that makes sense.
